Jam the frequency of Radio Free Sarawak

January 21st, 2013 at 15:10

Written by: Dr. John Brian Anthony

It is so funny that an example was given by BN leaders that during the war with Communist and during Confrontation the army interfere with the radio broadcast of the enemy. Now, the BN leaders see Radio Free Sarawak as the radio that belong to the enemy. Who are these people that we have elected? Are the elected leaders becoming the enemy of the people or are the leaders making enemy of the people.

What is truth?

Truth is something that is factual and can be proven. Can I prove to you that BN did not deliver on many of their promises of development to the people of Sarawak? Of course I could. Could I prove that the money allocated under Sarawak development plan has been misdirected from the original intention? Yes i could. Could I prove that the Ministers in Sarawak are involved in corruption? Yes I could and that is fact.

The ordinary people of Sarawak travel on bad and sub standard road. A large percentage of the people of Sarawak are living under poverty line. A large acreage of NCR land has been sold by the government to private enterprise. Can I prove all  these FACT. Of course I could and that is what exactly Radio Free Sarawak is doing. RFS is only a tool or platform for the people to talk about their problems. If BN is not an arrogant and selfish body of politicians they should take note of what is said by the people through RFS and correct their own mistakes.

Now BN leaders are picking quarrel with the people

BN leaders do not like to hear the truth of their doing. They cannot accept the harsh ways and words the people are using to give them the feedback. YBs must remember that ordinary people are not bound by the YB code of “honorable members”. It is an open public forum. But why are the BN YBs so proud and insistence of the people”s respect if they could not earn it. The YBs seemed to think that they are “small kings” and so must be treated like wise.

Conclusion

The BN YBs are failing in their duties to develop the state in a genuine manner. The YBs always look for opportunities to make easy money which could be associated to corrupt practice quite easily. The internet are powerful technology and tools – how could the leaders stop that?. All equipment to create more effective communication are available today. Instead of trying to jam the air waves why not BN leaders change their ways by running this country according to good governance. Stop corruption among the YBs for a start.

What has happened to the log jam report of the Batang Rejang? Has that been jammed by the BN Government too. I bet, it has. We never got to find the truth and learn from it. We are given information that are full of lies. Which intelligent person would like to listen to illogical reasoning and pronounced as gospel truth through the Government radio.

This Government is not competent and has very poor record of managing the country with good governance. After 50 years of BN Government do we have the right to change this Government? Of course we do and so we must UBAH.

Change WE Must.

In the conclusion section, you have referred to many issues by BN.

Since your appointment into DAP CEC, can we see your own action plan to halp Dayaks in particular and Sarawakians in general?

What issues will Dr. JBA champion?

One of Youtube video that perhaps Dr John could spread is the Tunku Abdul Rahman interview that exposed Dr Mamak as the Traitor Pengkhianat

One of the reason why Dr Mamak was expelled from UMNO in early days was beacuse of his hatred toward Tunku Abdul Rahman for being too close associate with the Chinese and Dr Mamak send thousands of poisen pen letters/surat fitnah that cursed and vilified Tunku Abdul Rahman. The book Malay Dilemma was the result of it wrote while he was in exile. Just like Hitler wrote his book Mein Kempf in prison only to caused WW2. Dr Mamak may not cause big war later but it’s enough damage done to Malaysia, its wealth looted, citizenship to Lanun Filipino made easy and embedded racism as norm here. Dr Mamak is such a man of hatred and master of deceit even until today to the point of dictating who must become UMNO president hence the PM too.

It’s funny when Tunku Abdul Rahman was accused as pro-Chinese when Dr Mamak himself as we know it also feeding ternak lots of Chinese Kronies (eg. Vincent Tan, Ting Pek king, Eric Chia, Krishnan Tan etc) causing black hole of duit rakyat being lost wasted.

Hopefully Dr John can send the audio version of the video to RFS (video-to-audio easily converted using Easy Youtube downloader with MP3 converter or other audio formats)

Or Dr John can use it as video presentation at Pakatan functions as well.

DR MAMAK – RAJA KHIANAT MALAYSIA!

Antara tujuan 13 Mei 1969 untuk menjatuhkan Tun Abdul Rahman dari UMNO
    - Tragedi 13 Mei 1969
    - Tujuan Asal ISA
    - Penyalahgunaan ISA ke atas pemimpin politik
    - Penyalahgunaan kuasa oleh Kerajaan
    —————————–
    Tunku Abdul Rahman berkata:
    ———————————–
    English translated:
“…One of them is Dr Mahathir himself…he sent one letter to me but at the same time he also sent hundreds thousands copies of it to everybody including the army, the police, common folks on the street…it’s all being distributed…And inside the letter he cursed me with sorts of things and allegedly I was hated by all the Malays, hated by the government officers, hated by the Malay army, hated by the police etc…”
“…There it shows how he purposedly telling the people to hate me, to reject me, to change the Malaya administration…He calls me as pro-Chinese…I fought hard for so long, is it all to uplift the Chinese?…It’s all to ensure the Malays to secure their place in the (Malaya) states…”
“…That’s what I fight for…He said I’m pro-Chinese, favouring the Chinese…lots of things he said…There he shows his outright betrayal treachery…”
“…Dr Ismail at that time was Guthrie chairman…He quit…But when he heard about the incident (poison pen letter by Mahathir)…he resigned, rejoin again (in the Federal Cabinet) and I appoint him as the Interior Affairs Minister…”
“…Actually he (Dr Ismail) was the one that took action against Mahathir…But there’s nothing significant about it…he just expelled Mahathir out from UMNO…Have it been for Mahathir himself surely he’ll do the same thing also…locking up people, arresting this person that person, curtail the newspaper…”

  10. ngujinasit Says:

BN desperate move to jam RFS is solely because the person who engineered the out of the box political strategy is hitting the BN really very-very hard for the first time by exposing their glaring misdeeds/policy failures (NCR land development policy failure as a clear example affecting Dayak directly) over the past 50 years to the innocent people of Sarawak especially the Dayak. RFS really does a very noble job catching the BN off guard. To me this is the most effective strategy employed so far to awaken and empower the Dayak in the rural areas and hopefully allow most of them to start questioning their blind loyalty to BN all these years and to re-examine their basic rights as citizen of this country.

    - ART OF WAR -
Sun Tzu said: “KNOW YOUR ENEMY”

What did Akik Jemot Masing and PRS goons do? DEFEND DAYAK ENEMY and BAN RFS!

These stupid paloi Dayaks are exactly the same bunch of Dayak goons hired by Charles Brooke to smoke out Rentap but failed. Using Dayak to kill another Dayak.

Actually, the big bully BN can be defeated one way or another.

Rentap may not read Sun Tzu book but what he did basically the same strategy told by Sun Tzu:
“DRAW THE ENEMY INTO YOUR OWN TERRITORY”

That’s why Charles Brooke failed to capture Rentap. Never. Rajah Brooke may enslaved, captured, ruled all over Dayak lands but still with his might and British resources he still failed to tangkap Rentap alive. HA HA HA HA. Just imagine how bitter Rajah Brooke at that time gigit jari back in Astana with all those Malay orang kaya, Dayak penghulu geleng kepala why they’ve failed.

It’s funny too how Akik Jemot Masing said RTM must revive back the SW shortwave radio Dayak channel station back and air against RFS. HE HE HE HE. A big Dayak joke lah. Desperado afraid of the truth and bring back the crap shit RTM Dayak praising muji BN hoping the poor Dayaks listen to it while ploughing their kebun. You expect them to believe your shit? Not enough shit aired on RTM tv, newspaper Utushit, radio Wai shit kah?

RTM shortwave Radio vs RFS??? HA HA HA HA BRING IT ON LAH

“DRAW THE ENEMY INTO YOUR OWN TERRITORY”

Quest for Brooke-era fortress in Sarawak
By James Ritchie, Borneo Post 2001

BETONG: A much-fabled fortress on a mist-engulfed Bukit Sadok commanded the Iban heartland in Sri Aman Division in Sarawak. My mission was to trek over at least four peaks to reach the summit of Bukit Sadok, at one time the bastion of Iban nationalists who opposed the troops of the invading White Rajahs 140 years ago.

After three expeditions between 1857 and 1861, Charles Brooke and his army of several thousand finally captured Chief Rentap’s Fortress only to discover that the wily old chieftain and his band of 24 warriors had abandoned it.

Rentap “Earth Tremor” whose real name was Libau, was never captured. Even after his death, his remains were concealed until recently when the Iban chieftain was accorded a hero’s burial by the present Sarawak Government at Ulu Wuak in the Julau district.

Fascinated by his heroics, I decided to revisit the Rentap trail. It took “Rajah Muda” Charles eight days to trek from Nanga Tiga to the peak of Bukit Sadok. Charles finally captured the fortress on October 28, 1861.
During the ascent of Bukit Sadok, the saga of Rentap’s valour and his fortifications unravelled as two descendants of his band of warriors —”Tuai Rumah” (headman) Kanyan anak Jiram, 38, and Linggi anak Lamat, 47 from Rumah Jambu Kerampak — guided me on a sojourn through time.

After the five-hour journey from Kuching to Betong and Nanga Tiga, our four-wheel-drive vehicle finally lurched to a halt at the foot of Rumah
Jambu-Kerampak. It’s the last longhouse before the steep ascent.

It was a cold and windy night as the village folk gathered at Kanyan’s “bilek” to reminisce about Rentap and swap tales about ascending the Sadok.

I rouse from sleep at 2 a.m. Strong winds howled all around. Armed with a torch light, I head for the toilet in front of the longhouse and return to the couch where Kanyan has put me up for the night. At 5 a.m. I wake up a second time. There is a sense of excitement and I look out from Kanyan’s back room and see the outline of Bukit Sadok rising majestically on what was to be a clear day.

We set off at 6 a.m. I knew it was to be an arduous climb but looked forward to it, very much like ten years ago when I first scaled the 7,950-foot Gunung Murud, the highest in Sarawak. I wondered if there would be a tantalising story at the end of it.

Kanyan and Linggi dressed in their longs. I followed suit, because part of the trail would meander through thick undergrowth. It was a bright day as we pass the pepper gardens of the villagers of Rumah Jambu-Kerampak. I am told that last year alone, the villagers sold some RM18 million worth of pepper products, making them a quite well-to-do community.

Unlike the days of the Rajahs when Ibans were relegated to the roles of “soldiers, porters and labourers”, the Iban farmers of the Ulu Layar region have the Government to thank. Kanyan said their longhouse is fitted with a RM300,000 solar power set donated by Betong MP Douglas Uggah several years ago.

As we leave the village, Bukit Sadok peeks out behind the mountain range. Thirty minutes into the initial trek we spy our first hill and
checkpoint—Bukit Batikal. Along the way we pass rolling slopes and valleys covered with hill paddy which the Ibans have cultivated for two centuries — long before the arrival of the White Rajahs. Charles Brooke on his expedition to Sadok noted in 1858: “The hills had just been burnt clear of every leaf for farming and the paddy in some of the places was already planted.”

The sun rose as we enter the dewy forests. Strong winds gusted. “Ribut (storm),” exclaimed Linggi who is pleased that it shall be a cool and
    comfortable trek.

Thick undergrowth had camouflaged the track which had not been trodden for at least seven months. I noticed many freshly-dug holes on the pathway and asked if these were made by wild boar. “Jugam (honey bears)..there are many in the area,” said Kanyan, reminding me that the bears are probably the most ferocious animals in the Borneon forests. Female honey bears (also called Sun bears) with six-inch claws have been known to maul trespassers who approached the cubs. Earlier in the day Kanyan said that it would take about two hours to reach the peak. However, an hour after leaving Rumah Jambu-Kerampak, we had only reached the second hill, Bukit Sanggau. Bukit Sanggau is also known as Bukit “Tanam Tunsang” or “Upside Down Hill” because nearly everyone taking this slippery route ends up on the seat of his pants.

The next peak we must scale is Bukit Tugong. Here we pass through “Tongkat Ali” (supposedly a powerful aphrodisiac) country; the plants grow wild and is plentiful. Linggi says that we must observe the “adat” (law) while passing this area. Everyone needs to toss a stick or piece of wood on three piles of branches. If not, the visitors will come down with a severe headache and have shivering spells.

By now we have manoeuvred past the steep slopes and are totally soaked by the dew and sweat. But Kanyan and Linggi, both standing no taller than five-foot-five, have no problems because they often help older folk up and down the hills in a “tambok” (basket). They would have helped me had I been unable to proceed further.

In his memoirs “Ten Years in Sarawak”, Charles Brooke describes what it was like for an outsider to scale the hill for the first time. “It was now fiery hot…one of our Europeans was completely exhausted; he had only lately arrived from England and was not yet inured to our broiling climate. On a good road in the old country he would doubtless have passed us, but now was so thoroughly “ikak” (exhausted) as to be obliged to be carried on the back of a Dayak.

“He was a man over six feet in height, and heavy in proportion. The Dayak who carried him up hill after hill, as if he was an infant, was only five feet two inches without shoes.”

The last hill before the final stretch along a narrow ridge is Bukit Rapu which is the beginning of the “Tatai” (Range) Sadok. By now, it is 9 a.m. We reached Genting Karak where one of Rentap’s loyal followers Nanang, the owner of the famous cannon named Bujang Timpang Berang (the One-armed One), had established his own “langkau” (farm hut).

“Nanang built his fortifications here because there is a stream nearby which was his source of water,” said Kanyan who is somewhat of a local authority on the legendary hero. Kanyan, who first scaled Bukit Sadok at the age of 12, narrated: “Over the years I have heard many stories about Rentap’s exploits and activities on the mountain from village elders including my father Jiram and maternal grandfather Igoh.”

Hanging from the rafters are some 30 skulls, some of which were believed to be prized heads taken during the White Rajah’s three expeditions to capture Rentap

Ten minutes from Genting Karak we reach Lempa’ Pinang, a spot where Rentap established his “langkau” because a second stream also provided a sufficient supply of water for him and his warriors. As we trek along the slippery and narrow ridge measuring between 12 and 14 feet towards Rentap’s eyrie I could imagine how treacherous the terrain could have been and how Charles and his brave warriors felt as they launched their assaults in vain.

In the failed 1858 Expedition Brooke described one particular incident.

“I rushed out of the stockade.. (towards Rentap’s Fortress)…and had not passed over meant to demoralise the enemy. “For example if one is injured by the bamboo spikes, he would be weakened and an easy target for Rentap’s men. If he did not retreat back in time, he would be finished off very quickly.”

Once inside, Brooke discovered that Rentap’s fortifications “proved to be a house within a very formidable stockade impervious to rifle shots, with almost perpendicular declivities on two sides of it” and to be almost impregnable.

Minutes later we reached the middle portion of the fort with a rocky outcrop called “Melaban Bedil”. This was where Rentap had stationed six “meriam” and “bedil” (cannons) including the “Bujang Timpang Berang”. It was here that Rentap’s men would take cover behind the rocks and fire their cannons at the Rajah’s forces.

Just before 10 am we reach the Sadok peak which rises to about 3,000 feet. Before us lay the vast Iban hinterland, the Saribas plains and the South China Sea. Even Brooke was amazed by the picture-perfect scenery. He wrote: “When the weather cleared we had a magnificent view of the country around, comprising many of the rivers as well as the sea; this is truly the grandfather as the natives call it, of the surrounding hills.”

It is from this “grandfather” of mountains that little streams cascaded down the range to form the Layar, Skrang and Tiput rivers. The return journey is more of a trudge as fatigue, the humidity and Bukit Tanam Tunsang took their toll. Back home, Kanyan announced his determination to improve the trail to the ridge. He also hopes to build a jungle hideout for visitors. “You would have noticed that I have marked the trees along the way with red paint. But if the trail is not maintained regularly it will be covered with undergrowth.

“As the authorities have not told me whether they are going to formally establish a trail to Bukit Sadok, I have decided to go ahead with my own plans and get the village folk involved in improving footpath and building our own jungle house. We want to make this famous hill accessible to outsiders and capitalise on the tourism business,” he said.

Backing the move is the State Government, with Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Alfred Jabu anak Numpang as the prime mover. A RM18 million road from Nanga Tiga to Bair in Ulu Layar is being built.

“Once the road is completed and tar-sealed the Ulu Layar region will be accessible to everyone allowing the people to enjoy the beautiful Iban outback. All of this is our country, our temuda and I have told my people not to wait too long but to take advantage of the natural heritage our ancestors have left behind for us.”

Reducing colonial troops to cannon fodder

ONE-ARM BANDIT…Rentap’s famous “one-armed” cannon named Bujang Timpang Berang which was used against the White Rajah’s troops. The left “trunnion” (arm) of the cannon is broken

SARAWAK’S most famous cannon nicknamed “Bujang Timpang Berang” lies, almost forlornly, like a forgotten piece of ordnance in front of the
    Betong district office.

Even though it stares menacingly at visitors, it is now a shadow of what it represented when turn-of-the-century chieftain Rentap used the cannon to fight the forces of the White Rajahs. Owned by one of Rentap’s generals “Pemanca” Nanang, the Bujang Timpang Berang or “One-armed One” was taken in a battle between Iban forces from Sarawak and the Malays of Sambas in the 1830s.

The three-inch M.L. Gun Dutch-manufactured cannon dated 1515 fell into the hands of villagers in Sambas, West Kalimantan during the Dutch rule.

However, in a famous skirmish between Iban fighters and some members of the Sambas royalty, Nanang managed to capture the gun, although the left trunnion (side arm) broke in the heat of the battle.

It was taken back to Sarawak, and Rentap used it as part of his armoury to defend the fortress at Bukit Sadok.

    Six-cannon Rentap

According to headman Kanyan anak Jiram, Rentap had six cannons stationed in the middle of his fortress at a spot called “Menalan Bedil”, with Bujang Timpang Berang as the centrepiece. Menalan Bedil or “Site of the Cannon clearing” is an interesting piece of artefact because part of the rocky outcrop is broken—possibly after being hit by the Rajah’s cannon shots with his equally formidable 12-pound gun (it had to be slung on a pole and hauled up Bukit Sadok by 60 men) named “Bujang Sadok” (the Sadok Bachelor).

In his book “Ten Years in Sarawak”, Charles Brooke states: “Our first shot went through their port holes and killed the principal man watching their guns (at Menalan Bedil); besides this, there were remains of three or four others killed, but Rentap had gone, and the sly old fox I fear, will get away among the holes and corners of this mountain.”

Not far from Menalan Bedil was Rentap’s “langkau” which was precariously perched on top of a precipice with a sheer 1,000 foot drop. Brooke said that if a landslip took place (and it rains incessantly in that part of the region) then “Rentap and his shell (langkau) must have gone to the bottom and been dashed to pieces.” Added a pensively sanguine Charles, “How a man and his family could have lived for so many years on such a spot is marvellous, and nought but a most determined spirit of resistance could have supported him in such discomfort and danger.”

After the Battle of Bukit Sadok the cannon was abandoned on the summit for at almost 70 years before is was retrieved and brought back to Betong by Brooke office G.R. H. Arundell and Penghulu Unji in 1928. The cannon was lashed to a sled and, held by ropes, slowly lowered down steep slopes to Betong.

“The Bujang Timpang Berang is part of the “Ensera” of the Iban and we take pride that it is part of out rich heritage,” said Kanyan. “But I am told that Rentap had an even larger cannon which was used against the Rajah.”

Kanyan said that the larger cannon which had to be carried by at least 12 men, sank into the river when the boat of the fleeing warriors of Rentap’ army sank. “I am told that the cannon sank somewhere in the foothills and has now been covered by rocks over the years. It will be difficult retrieving the cannon.”

Kanyan said that among the artefacts in the possession of his village are two cannon shots which were found at the foothills and 160 heads, some belonging to the Rajah’s warriors, which were taken over the last 200 years.

  19. ibanniah Says:

Masing recommends that RFS to be jammed is an indication that he cannot tolerate truth. What a man? Is RFS too disturbing or too revealing about what is going on in Sarawak? How to tell the rural people the truth-Only RTM can do that?

IF DR. James said that RFS should be jammed then he is telling the rural people-all rural people are stupid-an insult to us who lived in rural area. Hey” doctor we are no longer in the 1950-we can talk and send message thru the winds.

If u are not happy with the way RFS operate, then you go and tell the whole world that Sarawak is not democratic-it is controlled by masing and his cronies and only masing can tell the truth and only masing can talk. What a rubbish. No wonder the SWP want to eliminate you cos PRS is a party that do not deserve to exist. SWP will eventually jammed you and slowly and eventually the PRS frequencies will die down and PRS will never be heard no more. Bullshit!!!!!!.

  20. js@kbn Says:

So, RFS is a threat to PRS/BN?

If there is no truth in RFS, then why bother about it?

  21. minobradir Says:

SR(Sarawak Report) and RFS(Radio Free Sarawak) have surely gotten into the nerves of the BN clouts. Sooo good!

  22. Dayak Voice Says:

Taib Mahmud calls us to reject “opposition’s brand of politics” because they are “merely spreading propaganda which often belittles the government of the day”.

He didn’t say to reject the opposition though but let’s not split hair over his words.

Firstly, what is the opposition’s propaganda and what part of the propaganda that we dislike? The opposition promised on:

    • Clean government.
    • Accountability in utilising our resources.
    • Stop crony-based government contracts.

On this basis, the opposition proposed various measures to curb wastages. As far as revenue is concerned the opposition is steadfast in asking for 20% revenue for the petroleum pumped in our state.

Back in my school days, I was impressed with his promise of “politics of development.” Then he promised to make Sarawak the “most developed state.” Since development takes time, we were patient. But after one term after another the promised development never materialised. There were definite “financial developments” within his family – but that is not our issue here.

Taib Mahmud unfortunately cannot answer a single point made by the opposition. In fact, accusing the opposition as merely propaganda is the limit of his present political capital. He has none left.

Secondly, the so-callled propaganda the opposition spread is only through pamphlets and words of mouth. These are hardly propaganda tools when compared to the might of RTM and TV1,2,3 that BN has utilised all these years. As for the opposition, our only help, (unsolicited) comes from RFS, which air a 1 hour broadcast through the broadband.

But we all know the real propaganda that Taib fears. It is not from the opposition. He survived greater and bigger enemies before. This time, the propaganda is nearer to him. It is his 32-year shadows.

  23. js@kbn Says:

Dayak Voice, will Taib resign to become Swak TYT and Jabu will be promoted into Swak CM as reported by Joseph Tawie in FMT?

  24. js@kbn Says:

What happens to DCC as a propaganda channel?

  25. js@kbn Says:

Bala Dayak ba BN patut ninggalke BN laban BN enda tergagake jalai Kapit-Kanowit ngau jampat. Malaya ulih ngaga !Msia Tower.

  26. Dayak Voice Says:

js@kbn: If Uncle Jabu becomes CM? What is your opinion of him then? Maybe you can try to describe his CM-ship for us.

I don’t know and I don’t want to speculate on who will, or when will some one become CM or TYT. I am concerned about the progressive silence of Dayaks. I am concerned about the slow subjugation of our rights and culture. I am concerned with the cheap awards to appease us. I am concerned with the myriad (1,001) promises to entice votes.

To me, we Dayaks, it will forever be the same old story if we can’t think for ourselves regardless who becomes CM or TYT.

  27. js@kbn Says:

How about Jabu will become anoth Tawi Seli?

But promoting Jabu to be next Swak is probably enough for BN to appease Dayaks.

BN will say, you see, we really share power in BN and after the current Sawk DUN term expired, Jabu will most likely replaced by Taib’s man to continue his dynasty perhaps.

Appointing Jabu as CM is just probably enough to win this coming parlimentary election which BN says repeatedly their toughest election so far.

  28. Waiting For The Dayak Saviour Says:

So far the Self Proclaimed Iban/Dayak Paramount Chief will curse the person who promote him to be the Chief Minister of Sarawak. Not only curse but that person will also become his life long sworn enemy.

He loves Pehin more than he loves God. Remember Pehin is number 1 in the removal of Kalong Ningkan, No.2 Tun Rahman, No 3 Tunku Abdul Rahman, No 4 Tun Razak,No 5 Abang Johari’s father,No 6 Tun Jugah. The final dirty job was done by Yang Dikasihi.

To an educationist Ivan Petrovich Pavlov a Russian psychologist experiment with the dog is the best example to examine Yang Dikasihi character. He has been conditioned to be just a DCM for life. Thus lack confidence in himself to become a CM. He is just a politician and not a leader. Any future Dayak politicians who dream to become a Dayak leader must get rid of the trait to praise others. What to praise after all. If you praise Dr Mahathir look at his evil mind with Projek IC to dilute the numbers of the true natives of Sabah the Kadazans and Muruts.

At the age of 70 plus Yang Dikasihi should concentrate on Bible more and apologise to all Dayaks especially Ibans for his failures which you and I the readers of this blog have a long list of it. More than half of Dayaks miseries in Sarawak are caused by him. Sure he will be worse than Tawi Sli the seat warmer Chief Minister to quote Abang Yusuf Puteh in his book River Of Dry Tears. Ask Adun No.60 Kemena, No.32 Bukit Saban, No.55 Katibas and No.44 Machan to form RCI regarding the Bugis being given IC under Tun Rahman era much ahead of Maha Firaun Projek IC. Do they got the gut to speak up of course not. Sooner or later Awang Tengah kedua bali nama Awang Tanah Pengerampas Tanah Dayak will ask them to wear ” kain kebat” during the ADUN sittings as he sees them fit to be the clowns in PBB the proxy of UMNO.

Last, but not least happy retirement should be the last wish of all Dayaks to him.

KPG KUDEI BARU SQUATTERS WON’T BUDGE
by Lim How Pim, reporters@theborneopost.com. (2/03/2013)

KUCHING: At least 300 needy families in Kampung Kudei Baru, off Jalan Green Road, here refused to move despite a recent eviction letter demanding them to do so within 30 days.

Some of the squatters had resided in the area for over 30 years.

Most of the affected families claimed the government had once promised them a resettlement scheme or to legalise their domain.

Michael Chong, who was born and bred there, claimed a couple of developers had previously attempted to uproot the entire neighbourhood.

“Over the years, they came before Chinese New Year, asking us to move. But we all cannot afford to do that,” he lamented when met at Kampung Kudei Baru here yesterday.

“What matters is that then Minister of Land Development (now Tan Sri Datuk Amar) Adenan Satem pledged a resettlement scheme in Batu Kawah, but this never happened.

“We trusted Adenan, and back then his promise was all over the headlines. Neither did former SUPP Batu Lintang assemblyman (Datuk) Chan Seng Khai fought for us.”
The 40-year-old urged the government to honour its promises made over a decade ago.

LUTAI LAMPUN: We feel being lied to.

Chong added: “As a minister, he should keep his promise. Now that we are forced to move, where shall we go?”

According to him, most breadwinners in the area concerned are daily workers who do not have a stable income.

Fellow villager Lutai Lampun said he was taken aback by the legal notice, which required them evict in order to make way for a property development.

“I will not move unless I am promised a resettlement scheme. There is no way I can afford to relocate without financial aid,” said the father of two, who earns RM30 a day.

Lutai, 41, claimed that SUPP had promised the residents that the party would help them relocate.

“They said they would help but they never did. We felt being lied to and to say that we are sad is an understatement.”

The legal notice dated Jan 14, 2013, as provided by Batu Lintang assemblyman See Chee How, clearly pointed out that the 300 or so families had no rights to the land.

It said families could request for removal assistance from the client (the developer), but after the 30-day grace period, the client would proceed to ‘remove all squatter huts without further reference’ to any family.

SEE: KAMPUNG KUDEI BARU FOLK NOT SQUATTERS
Posted on February 3, 2013, Sunday

KUCHING: Kampung Kudei Baru was declared the government’s ‘kampung reserve’ way back in 1989, but now some 300 families living there are forced to move.

Batu Lintang assemblyman See Chee How, who dug up a State Legislative Assembly report dated Nov 17, 2011, said the declaration meant those families were no longer squatters.

“Technically, they are squatters before 1989. But now that it has been declared a government kampung reserve, they are no longer squatters.

“So, this is a case of in-situ legalisation. There is no need for them to be resettled,” he said yesterday, quoting the report which cited Minister of Special Function Tan Sri Datuk Amar Adenan Satem.

See, who is also state PKR vice chief, thus wondered why the families in Kampung Kudei Baru had recently been served the ‘Notice to Quit and removal of squatters hut on Lots 12 & 923, Block 195, Kuching North Land District’.

The notice was issued Jan 14, 2013. Two weeks later, Kampung Kudei Baru Welfare and Development Association, with the assistance of See, wrote a letter to the legal firm.

The letter, dated Jan 29, 2013, requested the legal firm to verify Kampung Kudei Baru having being declared as government kampung reserve with Adenan.

According to See, after Adenan declared Kampung Kudei Baru as a government kampung reserve, residents there jointly sent a petition to the minister regarding several requests for upgrading of basic facilities.

Among others, residents hoped the government could put a proper drainage system in place so that they would not be haunted by heavy and intermittent rains, which led to flooding issues.

They asked for electricity supply as well, reasoning that some families could not afford a power generator.

See hoped that the minister and state government would look into the matter as soon as possible.

Sama-sama meh kitai berunding sereta merati ka pengawa ka baka tu…….It happened before your eyes not just in rural areas……

Mirzan Mahathir: I’ve no share in Petron Malaysia
    NEWS/COMMENTARIES
Saturday, 02 February 2013 Super Admin

(Business Times) – Mirzan Mahathir, who is the second son of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, has reiterated that he does not own shares in Petron Malaysia.

“As one of the directors at San Miguel Corp, I admit that I have 1,000 shares in Petron Corp but only because I sit on the board. I have no interest in Petron Malaysia whatsoever,” Mirzan told reporters here on Thursday on the sidelines of the Malaysia Strategic Outlook.

Mirzan was responding to allegations by opposition defacto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who said Mirzan holds substantial shares in San Miguel, formerly a brewery company which is linked to the late President Ferdinand Marcos.

Petron Malaysia is part of the Petron Corp which in turn is owned by Philippines-based San Miguel group, which bought a 65 per cent stake in Esso Malaysia from ExxonMobil International Holdings Inc for RM1.8 billion in 2011.

In a statement released in September last year, Mirzan said he sits in the San Miguel board to represent an investment group QTech Alliance Holdings Inc which has investments in San Miguel.

Anwar has repeatedly played up the issue that Mirzan owns shares in Petron to the rakyat under his Jelajah Merdeka Rakyat rally campaigns

Dr M defends son’s stake in brewing alcohol controversy
By Clara Chooi, Malaysian Insider, 23 April 2010

SERENDAH, April 23 — With Datuk Zaid Ibrahim’s drinking past a brewing issue in the Hulu Selangor campaign, his nemesis Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad quickly moved to defend his son’s directorship in a beer brewery.

Pakatan Rakyat (PR) leaders have also been quick to defend their Hulu Selangor candidate, pointing out that Dr Mahathir’s eldest son Mirzan sits on the board of San Miguel Corp, a Philipines-based conglomerate that owns 51 per cent of the San Miguel beer brewery.

“We know about the present lies being spread. Supposedly my son is a director in a beer company. That is not true,” the former prime minister said in a surprise visit to the Barisan Nasional campaign here.

He explained that his eldest son, Mirzan, had merely been invited to the board for his ability to aid with the company’s bid to diversify its business from its primary beer brewery.

“Not true. The company wants to change its business. I was told they want to sell their alcohol division to someone else,” Dr Mahathir said.

He noted that if this was not true, he would tell his son not to remain in the board.

In a press conference later, Dr Mahathir continued to say that Mirzan had been chosen due to his ability to help the company diversify.

“In any case, he is not even a politician. I do not check on all my children… they do what it is that they want to do,” he said.

He pointed out that his son’s involvement in the beer business was dubious but Zaid’s drinking past was not.

“My son’s story is not true but that story about Zaid’s drinking before… that one is true… but it was ‘before’ or so he says,” he said.

The issue of drinking has been the hot topic used recently by parties on both sides of the political divide during the campaign period for the coming by-election this Sunday.

In the first attack, Zaid was accused of being an alcoholic, gambler and even a womaniser and criticised as an “un-Islamic” person.

The accusations levelled against the former Umno man were used in hopes of swaying the Malay support away from Zaid and for BN candidate P. Kamalanathan in this Sunday’s polling.

Zaid’s camp in the meantime, has accused Umno ministers of being no different, claiming that they too loved their alcohol.

PAS secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali had even said that all past prime ministers in Malaysia had consumed alcohol except for Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

Dr Mahathir scoffed at the claims but did not dispel its truth and said that “maybe” it was true but it was “in the past”.

“Last time, we all wanted to be like the white man. That’s why we say about our former leaders drinking.

“I am not saying that I drank but then of course people will make all kinds of allegations. If they do not have anything of substance other than that to win the support of the people, then they can raise whatever they like,” he added.

When questioned if he felt that by drinking, a leader would lose his ability to lead the nation, the veteran politician said: “It is for the people to judge whether a Prime Minister can lead the nation or not. In my time, I led for 22 years.”

Don’t drink ‘halal’ beer, Jamil Khir advises Muslims
    May 29, 2011

PADANG SERAI, May 29 — Muslims should avoid consuming a brand of beer claimed to be halal as it contains more alcohol than is permitted, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom (picture) has said.

He said despite claims by the distributor that the beer only had 0.01 per cent alcohol content, laboratory tests showed that it contained as much as 0.5 per cent alcohol.

“We will refer (the matter) to the Royal Malaysian Customs Department to get a better picture,” Jamil Khir told reporters here today.

He added that the Malaysia Department of Islamic Development (Jakim) together with state Islamic councils will take steps to stop the sale of the beer to Muslims.

The beer, said to be imported from the Middle East, is widely sold in cafes here for RM3.00 to RM5.00 a bottle.

“I advise Muslims to stop consuming the drink so as to not get trapped in a confusing situation,” Jamil Khir said.

It is understood that the sale of ‘halal’ beer, which is becoming more popular with Muslims, was detected by the Johor Islamic Department recently.

The department took samples of the beer to be tested and found that the drink, which comes in several fruit flavours, contained 0.5 per cent alcohol content.

Johor Mufti Datuk Mohd Tahrir Samsuddin said the National Fatwa Council had ruled that alcohol content in food and drink should not exceed 0.01 per cent.

He said Muslim scholars fixed alcohol content at that level as alcohol could sometimes be produced naturally in food and drink.

Govt out to make Ibans ‘scavengers’?

    Joseph Tawie
    February 4, 2013
The government’s perimeter surveys of NCR land will leave Ibans landless because once surveyed under Section 6 of the Land Code, the plot will be classified as communal reserve.
KUCHING: Thousands of natives in Sarawak stand to lose their longhouses and dignity if the state government continues to carry out perimeter survey of their respective native customary rights (NCR) land.
Warning fellow natives, Sarawak Dayak Iban Association (Sadia) which has been in the forefront in fighting for NCR rights over their ancestral land said thousands of longhouses in Sarawak may disappear if the the process continues.
“What we worry is that if the government continues to carry out a parameter survey of NCR land under Section 6 of the Sarawak Land code, the government is actually extinguishing the rights of the natives over their land.
“If this happens, the Ibans in particular will become landless because the government has turned the land into communal reserve land.
“Any time the government wants the land, it can alienate to anyone,” said Sadia president Sidi Munan.
Since the perimeter survey started in 2010, hundreds of thousands of hectares of NCR land have been surveyed and converted into native communal reserve land.
There are more than 1.5 million hectares of NCR land in the state.
On top of that, thousands of hectares of NCR land are being encroached upon by plantation companies and other commercial entities.
Said Sidi: “When the Ibans become landless, they cannot carry out their farming activities anymore. They have become squatters in their own land.
“There are cases where they have been chased away from their land and their longhouses demolished.
“Where do they go from here?” he said when asked by FMT to elaborate further on his statement on urban poor made at a Sadia dinner on Saturday night.
    Social problems
According to Sidi, majority of the landless Ibans had migrated to big cities and towns, and some went to other states like Johor in search of employment.
“Their longhouses are gradually abandoned. Now there is the real possibility that Iban longhouse will disappear in the future as more of them migrate to the towns.
“But I must warn you that their migration to towns will create more social problems such as prostitution, crimes, gangsterism and urban poverty.
“It is a common sight to see some of them becoming scavengers.
“This is because they lack the necessary skills,” he said adding that Sadia and Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) were willing to cooperate with any organisation or individuals who ‘championed the poor and needy’.
He said that Kuching Society for Urban Poor (SKUP) and Green Ribbon Association were doing a good job to assist squatters and the poor in Kuching.

In view of BN scam, should PR declare it won’t do the same, and declare that wealth in good human values is MUCH MORE IMPORTANT than wealth in materials and must put people interests above their personal interests?

After all, PR and Anwar like to emphasize on good governance and proper management as here: afiz Yatim
    2:00PM Feb 5, 2013

Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim has accused Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak of reducing the budget allocation for education by 20 percent, thus showing that the BN government is undermining the role of education.

NONEGiving his keynote address on free education at Universiti Industri Selangor today, Anwar (right), who is also Permatang Pauh MP, said when he was the deputy prime minister and finance minister, the two highest allocations went to the education and health sectors as it is for the people’s benefit.

“Ideally, a nation should allocate 20 percent of its Gross Domestic Product to education. However, in Malaysia, we see the BN government reducing its budget in education.

“In 2012, the Education Ministry was allocated RM50 billion for education purposes and in 2013, the BN government had reduced it to RM37 (actually it is RM38.7) billion. Never before has a government reduced its allocation towards education, and this is about a 20 percent reduction,” he said.

Anwar added that focus should be towards proper management and good governance, as the Pakatan government aspires to provide free education up to the university level.

He said that it is only through good and quality education, that one can build a good civilisation that a nation aspires to become.

Showing the examples of the Selangor and Penang governments which have managed to increase their reserves to RM2.5 billion and RM2 billion respectively, Anwar said that Malaysia as a whole has suffered a deficit in excess of RM500 billion, which is worrying.

    Plugging leakages

To help provide free education, Anwar said Pakatan proposes that if it wins the impending elections, it will plug the leakages through good governance and proper management.

Chegu Bard tidak bertanding, mahu jadi jentera biasa
    Muda Mohd. Noor
    | March 27, 2013

I am annoyed with the revelation of corrupt politicians and our Dayaks politicians are hopeless and strayed away from their principal of struggles. I,m disheartened with my own people supporting evil deeds, its a curse….and God knows it. This time around, no more doubt….bring those politicians who are noble servant and care for the rayats. Be wise, let us all spread the news for CHANGE to all.!!!!!

  62. M.H. Roslan Says:

    CHANGE

The Dayak Agenda – Change We Must.

DB- have you all consider the process of CHANGE – evolutionary or revolutionary approaches?

Perhaps, DB had made a successful changes in their own lives; has all the determination to help their fellow Dayaks people to change and had manage the fear that comes with CHANGE?

When proposal for CHANGE is introduced in a community, people fall into 5 categories in terms of their response.

    1. Innovators (2%) – those are the originators of new ideas, philosophy of -ism and are dreamers (with vision). This group I always called them as elite Dayaks or Well-Learned Dayaks.

    2. Early Adopters (10%) – those who know a good idea WHEN THEY SEE IT. In this group their opinion are respected and can convince others to accept it – example of the lower ranking elite Dayaks – veterans.

    3. Middle Adopters (60%) – the majority who HAS respect to the opinions of others, reasonable in their analysis of new idea, but inclined to maintain the status quo. This is the Dayaks Mass. They can be influenced by -ve and +ve INFLUENCERS.

    4. Late Adopters (20%) – the last group to endorse an idea and generally adopt the idea if the majority demonstrates support. This group often speak against proposed changes and never verbally acknowledge acceptance – a classic example of Tuai Rumah, JKKK and other influential community leaders.

    5. Laggards (8%) – the die hard / hard core who has commitment to the status quo and the past. This group will always against change – the lowest ranking in remote areas.

If DB choose the evolutionary approach for CHANGE (- a refine of what has been) it may takes another 5-10 years to achieve the desire CHANGE – (to change the present government regime) or – choose a revolutionary approach? ( – something totally different from what has been) but the question is – Is there much time left? There is only +/- 70 days to 13th GE – can DB bring CHANGE to 50% of the Middle Adopters group? – assuming the Innovators and early adopters would have accepted CHANGE and the total % CHANGE would be 42% – substantiate number for a CHANGE to take place.

ME – engkarawai says: March 29th, 2013 “This time around, no more doubt….bring those politicians who are noble servant and care for the rayats. Be wise, let us all spread the news for CHANGE to all.!!!!!”

My comment. Friend ME engkarawai – it is too late now,… but better than NEVER.

My final analysis, PR will not win Sarawak in this coming 13th GE. The simple reason is the lack of ground work / outreach efforts by the first and second group – INNOVATORS & EARLY ADOPTERS to positively influence the MIDDLE ADOPTERS. We need the Dayak votes to bring CHANGE and we see there is no possibility this time around and thus we (Malay-Malanau votes) shall not be put into risk for supporting PR.

DB has some brilliant ideas but failed in effective delivery to their own people in the villages – suburban and remotes areas. As we had challenge DB before this, “go home and educate your voters on value of their votes” as we cannot afford to see people vote for the election candidate just because of “Cap Apek”, Cap Langkau, satu ekor babi, zinc sheet roofing, plywood, paint,..etc being offer in exchange for votes.

  63. engkerawai Says:

    Mohd. Hj. Roslan,
Change will not happen very soon for Sarawak because there are vast majority who still harbour the, belacan’ mentality. These group of conservative voters are easily comforted by the
luxury of UMNO and PBB goons. But of course PBB wouldn’t let UMNO invade Sarawak, it a serious consequences for the Dayaks will not let them grab the lands which naturally belongs to the Dayaks. Lest you forget, Borneo Island is a tribal land for the Dayaks. During the olden days you will loose your head if you invade their territory.
Haji Roslan, it doesn’t matter now if Sarawak still colonised by Malaya, meaning to say, just to maintain the status quo. We will see outcomes after PRU 13, whether things will alter the course of politics in Malaysia. We the second generation will determine the next course of action because we are the more educated Dayaks warrior. We are quite patient indeed and peace loving Christians esp.during this Easter mood. God want us to be humble and practise moderation and not violence.
The corrupters must be exterminated once and for all, we knew that. We Dayaks have enough and the moment ha come for the Dayak NGOs to really getting into a critical stand. Nothing to loose for we are fighting for a noble cause and destiny for generation to come. Politics nowadays will not focus on one race one party but time is up for a more integrated approach fighting for every race. Two party system like US is quite practical and every race has a chance to be PM.
I love this country we have abundant resources, means and capability to develop but sadly it only falls into the hands of elites group of BN corupters and we the rayats have minimal share in the state riches. Look around us, Taik Manok is enriching himself and family dynasty for more than 3 decades. This time it will the end of his ‘politik pembangunan’ hypocrisy. His young ‘fairy lover’ will be a concern for she will be an ‘upset’ for him. Baru Bian might want to claim his stake and we are getting closer to it, it a die hard effort and I salute this noble Dayaks whom we must give our fullest support in the coming GE13 and to Ali Biju as well…..

My comment : – agreed with ME engkarawai – that Baru Bian is a Noble Dayak.

Based on our record it seem that the Orang Ulu are seen fighting for the Dayak in general and the IBan – specifically. They fight for the rights and also spiritual soul of the Ibans. It begins after the “disappearing” of Tajem & Moggie in politics.

Take for example of some prominent Orang Ulu Lawyers – Harrison Ngau, Ali Basah, Paul Raja and Baru Bian – all fighting for the Dayaks & mostly for the Ibans. In some evangelist churches – there are records of Lun Bawang, Kelabit, Kayan, Kenyah pastors serving in the Iban churches. It is a trend now.

So where are the Ibans Lawyers? We know from a court case record, that Musa Dinggat had won the NCR land case – where the NCR rights of a small group of KEDAYAN community in Kg. Nyallau was restored.

However, let be informed here the veteran voters of rural Sarawak have this fantasy in their minds that Barisan Nasional under Tun Uban is the best government in the world.

Telling them with statistics showing Dayaks as the most marginalized race in education, administration ,business and politics will turn into a deaf ears. However, not all veteran voters of the rural areas are that naive if we read this statement carefully. ” Enggai enda enggai pan BN meh diundi aku anak laban aku suah udah mimpi asa kenyau ari taun 1987 suba. Tuai politik BN kitai Iban ke nadai geran nya meh diundi aku serak tu. Kapa sida Awang Tanah enda makai kitai.”

Let us not take his statement lightly. However, I still appeal to the young voters for hope. Yes, young voters the ruling government have succeeded in fooling you around with nice activity ” Seribu Belia ” Please, make a change now. Vote for Pakatan. Nothing to lose with BN the Dayaks are also still the most oppressed race in the world in every sphere of life. Why not try for a change.

Our shortsightedness this time will be best summarized by this statement made by one educated Iban sympathizer of the great Ming Court event in 1987. ” Tak umur meh kitai tu anak dikemelika Melanau teda dengah aki-ini kitai kelia.”
    Goodbye for now.

  74. Sarawakian Says:

Yes GE13 is around the corner.

Good Luck Dr J B Anthony and to all the PKR and DAP’s candidates.

Time has come for a REAL change.

Go back and inform your kampong folks, if money given take the money and vote for PKR and DAP. Do not feel guilty after all, the money belongs to them in the first place but has been looted badly by PBB.

We must kick out PBB and BN and wrestle back all the companies that Taib has given to his children who enjoy their lives overseas while the money machine keep churning out money for them here.

We must confiscate their loots and give back to all Sarawakians especially the Dayaks who have suffered so much under this Taib devil’s oppression.

I pray for you all. May God be with you.
