Oil and Gas Rights in Sarawak.
December 10th, 2012 at 4:41Written by: Dr. John Brian Anthony
I was very disturb when I read the part that the Chief Minister of Sarawak has got his hand directly into our oil and gas resources working through a proxy called Rimbuna Hijau ( RHPetroGas Sdn Bhd) to rework certain oil and gas field in Sarawak. This is against the backdrop that Pakatan Rakyat promised to set up an independent Sarawak Oil and Gas company belonging to the State Government to maximize the already used up oil field. In this way, Sarawak can enjoy better revenue from oil in future and develop a company that has capability to go and prospect for oil overseas by acquiring experience, knowledge and skill working on home grown oil and gas environment. Why did the Chief Minister choose to be so selfish and greedy?
20 years oil reserved left
We all know that expert has estimated that we only have 20 years left of our oil and gas reserve. This reserve is not in our hand but in the hand of Petronas. The Federal Government has decided not to increase the royalty of 5% paid to sarawak. The Pakatan Rakyat promised an increase to 20% of our oil royalty. I always maintained that we should have it 100% and then we can pay Petronas as our strategic partner and one of the outsourcing resource. The oil rights should be in the hand of the State and that would allow us to develop our country based on our plan and needs and not based on standard and guide given by the Federal Government. Of course we will give some money back to help the central government to support some of its function.
We should tear off that Petroleum Development Act of 1974 and create a new one to favor the state has oil and gas.
Sarawak is a colony
We cannot deny this fact when our main source of income is taken by Malaya and our development plan must be approved by the Federal Government too. The growing sense of wanting to get out of Malaysia is simmering which is such a letdown but then the State has been a late down by the Federal Government and we have a BN Government in Sarawak that continuously exploit our natural resources to feed the BN YBs. We Sarawakian must stand united and reject this wanton exploitation of our natural resources for politician self gain and also our land for BN to launch a modern day feudal system. This feudal system will enslave us Sarawakian whereby in the future our children will be forced to buy expansive land and houses and a slave to capitalism built on monopoly.
Do we have a future at this rate
Some of us may felt that we have made it just because we receive University education and a good job. The rate of run away inflation is ahead of your income increase and the actual value of your investment is almost zero due to market forces that is contributed by the current government poor fiscal policy and practices. We are having rm580 billion national debt which represent 55% of of our national income. Yet, the government continue to implement give away free money in the most wasteful way just to win election and stay in power to rule with their fancy idea of a “supremacist race. Thus prudent fiscal management is one of the weakness of this country at this moment. Do we still want to vote for such mismanagement? I pray not!
Conclusion
Our trees has been taken by RH, and so is our land for their reforestation investment and oil palm plantation. Now RH has been given our oil rights. May I asked you what is so special about this particular citizen that he shares and own most of our natural wealth and give us non in return.Don’t you think that we should have a tribunal to look into this misdeed should we have a new government?
Sarawakian should stay united and insist on our rights to ensure that the wealth of our natural resources is shared and save for our future generation. Build good road for us, provide clean water, electricity and even provide us with decent medical care and school building facilities. Just ensure that we have enough land to plant food for our future generation.
Aram meh kitai berubah lalu tukar meh perintah ke diatu. Change WE Must

1. Yes. Sarawak’s oil right has been taken by Malaya.
2. Yes, Sarawak’s status has been reduced from an independent nation to a controlled state by Malaya by forming Malaysia.
3. Yes, the 18/20 points agreement has NOT been fully complied with.

We just WAIT AND SEE? Sarawak Wealth and riches are up for grabs, We have no sense of belonging and irresponsible to mother nature. I’m disgusted by the facts that Sarawakian leaders never learn or they are plain coward. It’s an abuse of human rights entrusted to them by the rayats who voted for them.

Before SWK joined Msia, Swk was just like Brunei a recognized country. Now Swk is part of the country Msia. If it had not joined Malaya, Swk could have been a country by itself. Now, it seems to be bullied. It’s quite weird that Swk is so far from WM and YET still insist to be governed by the WM. Now we have ‘telanjured’….should have been on our own instead of relying on the Malaya. If Brunei and S’pore could be independence, why can’t Swk? Should have pullout like Brunei and Spore!

Poor judgement by Apai Jugah & the Sarawak leaders at that time. They lacked information on the implication by aligning with Malaya. its a great loss for we are lagging behind in many aspects. The agreement is a brilliant scam orchestrated by the elite UMNO to rob our wealth and resources. The dayaks are the clear victims of suffering and misery. So what now? The’Ngayau’ in the modern context must be reaffirmed to gain the ‘lost ground’ after 5 decades of marginalisation.

Now the state has become the vote bank of BN and the UMNO is willing to let the old man to continue to reign as long as he is still around the world and perhaps into the next world coz he has strong echelon generation to succeed him. There will be lots yet to come happening within his world.

Fixed deposit is still intact because of the mindset of the Dayaks themselves. They just simply not smart in the game, even now the young generation seems to believe that the corrupt gov’t is OK. This is because of the BN propoganda through media, gov’t programs, such as KEMAS, PLKN, TATANEGARA etc.
I think Radio Free Sarawak has play some role but the momentum is too slow and Dayaks are stubborn and self-centred when politics is concerned. We the educated lots have to play a tremendous role to awaken our people, to be more critical when our rights are denied and fooled by UMNO & BN Dynasty. CHANGE WE CAN?

Agreed with you there. Perhaps the late Tun Jugah could be forgiven for lacking formal education and besides that, a deceased. What is hard to ponder are the living Dayaks in PBB who continue to be subservient and dormant when come to Dayak interest. We all know how they benefit from being so in the politics of development.
Our ray of hope is there, we have slow and steady awareness by younger Dayaks that evil leadership does exist and unwanted. It is just to difficult to replace for the time being.

Indeed,it is never my intention to bring Tun Jugah back to the core of our discussion who had left us long time ago.My prayer to him let his soul shall rest in peace first. To be honest to all my beloved readers in this blog, this is the first time, Waiting For The Dayak Saviour mentioned his name from the first time Dr John blog appeared in 2008 until now.Despite his name has been mentioned off and on in this blog.
From this second paragraph onwards I will not mentioned his title Tun as it symbolizes Malay Supremacy but used his Iban famous title the Apai. He was called Apai not just by the Ibans of Kapit but the whole Ibans of Sarawak know that.
It was true the late Apai who was one of the signatories for the formation of Malaysia in 1963 made the biggest mistake in all Dayak histories especially the Ibans.
Some Saribas Iban elders who were around 70 to 80 years old at the time of the formation of Malaysia were in total rejection to the idea of Malaysia. Their reasons of course related to their very long history of being the most independent, powerful and adventurous people on this part of Borneo Island. From 1700-1799 they had a great war leader and a great sea pirate in the person of Unggang Lebor Menoa who controlled the seas from Santubong to the north and even at one time fought the Suluk pirates up to the Tawi-Tawi Island. From 1800-1920 under a great war leader Dana Bensumbar Bayang and his sons, Saribas Ibans still looking for heads but not their greatest priority as trading for jars was their main activity to places like Sumatra,Malaya like Kelantan and even to Pattani, Singapore and even to Pahlawan Island.
This long historical contacts have gave them enlightenments and let me quote what they said in Iban:”Kati ku kitai tu begulai enggau Laut Malaya baka itit begulai enggau manuk. Ngumba-ngumba Temenggong Jugah, baru kemari iya ngaitka iku sirat ba puchuk ensurai Ulu Balleh bangat berani mai kitai begulai enggau Laut Malaya. Tu baru kitai nganjung paung empa jani.”
Now let me repeat the Iban Proverb they used before Malaysia was formed. Nganjung Paung Empa Jani. That is the real situation we are facing now. My Kelantanese Prof during my university days just used to joke with me.Malaya is rich because its has two colonies. Repeat this statement for the deep meaning.
However, we must not forget the late Apai cautionary words. I quote: ” Anang Malaysia tu ila baka tebu manis di pun tabal di ujung.” I want to refresh it just a bit in accordance with the Standard Iban Language use in school and also in accordance with my ability to pronounce the consonant/r/. ” Anang Malaysia tu ila baka tebu manis di pun tabar di ujung.”
Of course we can blame the late Apai day and night. It was a reality he could not wash his hands completely for the miseries that we are facing now. However, to me the most important things now. What are the today’s Dayak politicians big dreams for us to correct the wrong doings in the past. Do we expect the late Apai who had gone a long time ago to talk about the presence of hundreds of Ustazs and Ustazahs from Semenanjung in Sarawak including in Kapit. Why can’t we train our own local teachers for example. Is it not colonization and Islamisation by UMNO?
I think late Apai mistake was because he didn’t have Think Tank to advise him. I see Dr John blog is a modern Dayak THINK TANK which today’s Dayak politicians must read and not hack it even though the truths here are bitter pills to swallow.

Let’s work together to get rid of the corrupted UMNOputeras for the sake of the future
of Sarawak and our children.

I have heard almost everybody been calling Jugah “Apai”. I had in the few ocassions I did talk to him including during the time he was a Federal Minister for Sarawak Affairs with Sidi Munan was his Chief Private Secretary, and when he was sick but well before he died at Tan Sri Linggi’s residence, addressed him as “Apai”. I did so and indeed I have always recognized him as a “fatherly figure”. And I would never blame him for what Malaysia has brought on to the Dayak communities as a whole. To me he did what he did including his agreeing to the formation of Malaysia because he believed it was then correct to merge Sarawak with Malaya, Sabah and Singapore. The main threats had come from communism with mainland China as its then main driver. Furthermore the British after having taken so much from the countries they ruled with the independence much demanded by their colonies they had wanted it out for to stay longer although they could do so would have caused them more troubles and would not be economical. To make Sarawak, Singapore, and Sabah be after their independence merged with Malaya which was granted independence in 1957, would make for a bigger entity and easy to secure “economically and security-wise”. In short it was a part of an exit strategy for the British. Apai Jugah believed the British then was correct so he agreed, and likewise the other leaders.
There is one bright star that Apai Jugah and the other of Sarawak’s leaders, including James Wong, Remingius Durin (Singgai), Teo Kui Seng, and not forgetting my late unlce named Awan (he married and raised a family in Kg Quap after WWII, and recently died at an old age there), an elder brother of my late father Uren who died when I was still a week’s old baby, and Ong Kee Hui and Stephen Yong, the latters had opposed Malaysia from the beginning and got condemnations heaped upon them as “communist stooges” and etc, had caused to remain shinning: the 18/20 points agreements were produced prior to Malaysia Agreement Act 1963. And we and the future Sarawakians and Sabahan must thank these our forefathers for the 18/20 points agreement. With these agreements in place, and although they are not yet implemented (although BN leaders would want us to believe that they are incorporated in the Federal Constitution, they are not infact), there is still hope for us.
Please do not forget that Sarawak and Sabah merged with Malaya to form Malaysia. Now we are the 13th and 12th states under Malaya. We are neo-colonized by Malaya. Our oil and gas have become property of Petronas owned by Federal Goverment: we are given a mere 5 %. Surely Apai Jugah did not plan this. May God bless him and our forefthers including those in Sabah who left for us one”floating log”, a sort of, the 18/20 points agreements.

To me, aki Jugah was a blessed as well as a cursed to the Ibans. Blessed in the sense that he made Ibans known to the world and able to enrich his generations with timber license, that s marvellous. He was a cursed to the Ibans that he collaborated with Malays (and fed govt) in removing Stephen Kalong from the chief minister. His generations failed to contribute any fortune from timber license to develop Kapit into a productive town which can benefit the poor Ibans in the surrounding areas.
But couldn’t blame him alone even the new dayak YBs dont really care about the poor dayaks. They were/ are busy fighting for their survival, as long as still getting crumbs from the politics of debolotment. Esp the iban ybs, couldn’t trust anyone of them. Time to give chance to a person like Baru Bian (org ulu) to lead the dayaks in future. Couldn’t trust dayak Bidayuh as well, anek is good example of bullfrog the political opportunist. No to Masing & Mawan as well. At least Mawan never betrayed dayaks.

PATRIOTS UNITE FOR A FREE & INDEPENDENT SARAWAK
ANEK You are a real Sarawak PATRIOT!
Yes we have been Malayanised and recolonised.
Sarawak was an independent state for 100 years from 1841 to 1941.
Then by turn it became a Japanese British and Malayan colony over the last 70 years!
For all you who have read the preamble to the 1941 Sarawak Constitution you will know that is part of our Charter of Rights independence and democracy. The other parts of our Charter are formed by the Land Code and Rajah Charles Brookes Farewell message and warning not to lose our land and become coolies and slaves.
Sabah and Sarawak are already physically separated from Malaya like East and West Palistan.
We may be under Malayan military occupation and political domination. But many examples show that we can break free if we have the will.
For the meaning of real independence look at Brunei and Singapore. They rule themselves and are enjoying the benefit. Brunei people gained by controllimg their oil and Singapore without resources managed to become one of the richest countries in the world.
So what is wrong with us? We got number and the resources. Why be ruled by foreign racists and fascists like UMNO supremacists?

Indeed, theis 18\20 point Agreement is a “Floating log” for Sabah and Sarawak.
And the existence of this floating log must be hoghlighted to every Sabahan and Sarawakian, especially the young. Since the log has not been part of the History Textbook, its existence may not be known by them.
I had been one of such people. I only came to know of this floating log after completing my studies.
As a result, I always thought that the BN govt has been very good in helming our country. I had never known that Sarawak was a country. I was confused as Sarawak had had its own currncy and National Anthem. Why?
This was because the facts were not mentioned in our Textbook.
Our primary task now is to create as much awareness as poosible amongst our Sarawakians and Sabahans cocncerning this floating log. We need to persuade the Federal govermt to accept what have agreed and stipulated in the Agreement. How I wish to live in Sarawak as an independent country? And I think many people in Sabah also want to see the same thing.
The longer Sabah and Sarawak being subject to the UMNO led government, the more problems we have. For example, the issue of illegal migrants in Sabah has become an insurmountable problem. The coming of Malayan companies to empty the natural wealth of Sabah and Sarawak and to forget about the occupation of Senior pos government posts by the Malayans which have denied the rights of Sarawakains and Sabahans to be in control of their own countries.
Had our knowledge is clear on Sabah and Sarawak as independent countries, the problem of the employment of the Malayans in the “12th and 13th states” should not have arisen.
Hopefully, one day the majority of the people from these countries from Borneo will understand our rights as written on this floating log. And then, we all stand for them!

Oil onshore? Who own Swk onshore oil? Federal (95%) or Swk (100%)? According to Jeffry Kitinggan he refer to Petroleum Agreement, everything onshore are own by state.
